Free Summer Activities in the 'Boat

July 19, 2019

We know vacations can be expensive. We also know it is worth the expense to experience and create magical memories that will last a lifetime for our family, kids, spouse, friends, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc.  It is worth taking a vacation as it is a time to take a breath from the hustle and bustle of life.   While costs can add up quick, this blog will tell you about some FREE fun summer activities.

Hiking
Yeah, yeah, you knew I would throw in this popular outdoor activity. Consider this though, hiking provides connection between everyone in your group to the outdoors.  An experience unique to the place.  A hike in Florida will be very different than a hike in Colorado.  Explore the great outdoors on a trail.  It is good for your soul and also good for your soles to get exercise.  In Steamboat, my favorite hikes within city limits are: Spring Creek Trail (meanders along the creek, great for all ages), Emerald Mountain Trails (multi-use trail network right off of downtown), and hiking trails accessed from the base of the ski area.

First Friday Artwalk
Every first Friday of the month the downtown art galleries and select businesses open their doors for visitors and locals alike to enjoy a lovely evening of art.  A variety of pieces from local artists will dazzle your artistic side.  Many galleries provide wine, beer and small bites.  Local musicians may also be playing, creating a relaxing evening in the heart of mainstreet.

Playing at the Steamboat beach
Want to kick back in an Adirondack chair with your toes in the sand?  Or better yet have the Adirondack chair in the creek with your toes soaking up the cold mountain run off on a hot day?  Check out the newly created beach area at the base of Steamboat Ski Resort.  Burgess Creek flows from the mountain through the base area where the cascading creek flows through rock features and sandy beaches created for kids (and adults) to enjoy.

Yampa River Core Trail
Fish (if you have license and equipment) along the Yampa River Core trail on a public fishing stretch through town.  Don’t fish but like relaxing by the river?  Hang out along the benches or rocks along the river. Take a walk, run, or cruiser ride on this 7-mile flat, paved trail through town.

These activities truly are special for people of all ages and can really build connection to the wonderful community of Steamboat.  The bonus is they are all free.  Enjoy the outdoors, the arts and the relaxed mountain town this summer.
