Steamboat is one month out from Opening Day of the 2018/19 ski season! Actually, just shy of one month. Steamboat has recently announced they will open a day early on Wednesday, November 21st, 2018!
Historically, the Steamboat Ski Area has Opening Day on Thanksgiving (as long as snow and weather allow). There will be new traditions this year with Steamboat opening a day early. This Wednesday carried a tradition as ‘Scholarship Day’ for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC). The mountain lifts and operations would be running, but there would be a flat ticket rate with proceeds going towards the club.
The Steamboat Ski Resort has announced Scholarship Day will now be the true Opening Day. The resort will generously donate $50,000 to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. All passes, including the Ikon, Ikon Base, and Steamboat-specific passes will be valid. Day tickets are also available to buy.
If you need convincing to come to Steamboat for Opening Day, I can tell you it has already been snowing in the 'Boat! The top half of the mountain blissfully sits with snow capped peaks. There will be complimentary Korbel Mimosas, Champagne Powder donuts and Ohana t-shirts for the first 100 skiers and riders. A toast to the season with an official “Snow Dance” will take place all before the gondola opens. There will also be a donation presentation to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
