March Happenings in the 'Boat

March 17th:  Yampatika Snowshoe Tour on Emerald Mountain.  Ride the chairlift up historic Howelsen Hill to enjoy spectacular views of the Yampa Valley, and to learn winter ecology provided by a Yampatika guide.  This tour is for ages 12 and up.  Cost is $20 and price includes snowshoes and lift ticket.  Registration is required. -MARCH 17th:  FREE Concert at the base of the Steamboat Ski from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. with Donovan Frenkenreiter.  The southern California native was a protégé of fellow surf rock musician Jack Johnson prior to embarking on his solo career. Among his albums are “Move by Yourself” (2006) and “Glow” (2010).

-MARCH 18th and 19th:  Rocky Mountain Central Skiing Championship.  Come watch Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes in the U14 division as they compete in the Rocky Mountain and Central Championships with some of the best athletes from across the country. -MARCH 20th:  Author Talk at Off the Beaten Path Bookstore (located downtown at 68 9th street) at 7:00 p.m.  Join Off the Beaten Path as they host author Erik Weihenmayer to discuss his new book, No Barriers: A Blind Man's Journey to Kayak the Grand Canyon.  The book describes author Erik Weihenmayer’s moving story of overcoming challenges through outdoor adventure and other pursuits.  Erik challenges each of us to commit to overcoming an obstacle. 

-MARCH 21st:  Behind the Scenes Tour at Tread of Pioneers Museum from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m.  Go behind the scenes at the Tread of Pioneers Museum with our museum curator and see the thousands of items that they care for and preserve that are currently not on display.  The tour lasts 30 minutes.  Admission is free but donations are appreciated. 

-MARCH 22nd:  Sunset Happy Hour from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the top of the gondola.  Gondola loading starts at 5 p.m. as you head up to Thunderhead while taking in the view.  Enjoy drink specials, appetizers, and live music while you wait for the sunset.  Afterwards, enjoy the stars and lights of downtown as you make your descent back to the base area.  $15 includes Gondola Ride and $5 towards food or beverage.  Season pass holders ride for free.  Tickets can be purchased in the Gondola entrance as you board.  Space is limited and regularly fills up early so please plan accordingly.
