Powder for Days at Steamboat Resort

December 15, 2019

Can you say POWDER?!?  People were saying it loud, clear and with big grinning smiles of powder in Steamboat this past weekend.  The resort saw almost 3 feet of snow in a few day storm that blanketed the mountain with freshies from top to bottom.

The timing of the storm was perfect to roll in on Friday night.  Locals and visitors woke up to a huge powder day Saturday morning breakfast.  I couldn’t believe it when I got to the gondola there were no lines!  I thought to myself, were there too many holiday parties last night and people are sleeping in?  It’s 9 am and usually the gondola line would be a bit backed up.  Then it dawned on me, we have a brand new high speed gondola... and, wow what a difference it makes getting folks moving up the mountain faster!

You now may be wondering where all those people were skiing if there were not many lines.  Fortunately, Steamboat Ski Area announced more terrain opening for the weekend.  Sundown and Elkhead lift opened up on Saturday giving access the ‘sunny’ side of the mountain.  Storm Peak has been open a few weeks, however between Storm and Sundown express lifts, it really diversifies the terrain access to most of the front side of the mountain.

On Sunday, Sunshine Express and South Peak lifts opened which allowed people to enjoy the Wally World favorites such as Tomahawk, Quickdraw, Baby Powder and my favorite, Sunshine Lift Line.

With more terrain opening and more snow on the way, winter has definitely made its appearance in the ‘Boat.  We can’t wait to see a little sunshine this week and then another storm system rolling in next weekend!
