Visiting Steamboat for Spring Break?  Top Happenings for the Weeks Ahead

-MARCH 13th and March 15th: Take a run during Yampatika Ski With a Naturalist event. This is a free program that takes place on Steamboat Ski Area, however it does not include a lift ticket.  Meet at the Why Not trail head at the top of the Gondola at Steamboat Ski Resort on Tuesday and Thursday through March 15.

-MARCH 13th:  Winter Film Series from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Chief Theater.  This week's film: “Stormy: The Story of a Mountain and a Man”, “Skiing Steamboat Style” & “Steamboat: The Place to Ski” -The early beginnings of the Steamboat Ski Resort is described by founder Jim Temple in “Stormy”.  Ski area footage and fun continues with two Steamboat Ski Resort promotional videos (1986 and 1994).

-MARCH 15th:  Sunset Happy Hour at the top of the gondola.  Gondola loading starts at 5 p.m. as you head up to Thunderhead while taking in the view.  Enjoy drink specials, appetizers, and live music while you wait for the sunset.  $15 includes Gondola Ride and $5 towards food or beverage.  Tickets can be purchased in the Gondola entrance as you board.  

-MARCH 16th:  FREE snowshoe tour at Fish Creek Falls from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This tour is offered weekly throughMarch 16.  Join Yampatikafor a moderately strenuous snowshoe tour along the breathtaking Fish Creek Canyon.  This tour is for ages 12 and up.  The snowshoe tour is free program, however registration is required.  Please call (970) 871-9151 to register.

-MARCH 16th:  Fun Friday Nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Gondola Square.  Enjoy an evening of excitement including night skiing, rides on the Outlaw Mountain Coaster, and participate in different activities and entertainment each week with a DJ dance party and then enjoy a variety show to impress the whole family featuring a magical rabbit and dove, knife juggling, and more.  The grand finale is at 7:30 with Friday night fireworks. 

-MARCH 16th:  Fly Fishing Film Tour at the Chief Theater from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  The festival consists of short and feature length films produced by professional filmmakers from all corners of the globe, showcasing the passion, lifestyle and culture of fly fishing.  The films at this popular event are capturing the attention of anglers around the world.  Tickets are available for $15 at Straightline Sports, Steamboat Fly Fishers, or Bucking Rainbow.

-MARCH 17th:  Yampatika Snowshoe Tour on Emerald Mountain.  Ride the chairlift up historic Howelsen Hill to enjoy spectacular views of the Yampa Valley, and to learn winter ecology provided by a Yampatika guide.  This tour is for ages 12 and up.  Cost is $20 and price includes snowshoes and lift ticket.  Registration is required. -MARCH 17th:  FREE Concert at the base of the Steamboat Ski from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. with Turkuaz.  Turkuaz is a nine-piece “powerfunk” outfit from Brooklyn, N.Y., whose modern take on the classic funk sound has established the group as a leader in the funk revolution.  

-MARCH 17th:  Torchlight Parade and Fireworks at the Steamboat Ski Area.  In conjunction with the torchlight parade, a fireworks display will illuminate the sky providing a perfect ending to the evening.  The show is free and great for all ages.  Starts around 7:00 p.m., however time is determined by sunset.
